Unsung Heroes documents powerful rural women of west, north, and eastern Uganda through portraits choreographed by the subjects themselves. The modern feminist narrative in Uganda centers urban, educated, affluent, and otherwise privileged women. Each of these women has achieved astounding things despite receiving no accolades for her contributions to the world. Learn their names. Listen to their stories. Glean their power.
Unsung Heroes has been featured at a gallery in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and at African Women in Dialogue, a mass convening for women from every African country, held in Johannesburg. However, phase two of Unsung Heroes is to develop the project into a documentary film following the subjects. To arrange an exhibition or get involved in production of phase two, visit the contact page to express interest to Nitumwesiga.
