"I really admire your passion - you can feel it in every word. A passion for your country, and its future; and your despair that, despite so many efforts, change is so difficult, and sometimes seemingly impossible. "
- SUE SMITH, Australian playwright
Nitumwesiga was born in the protected mountains of Buhweju in 1988. Here she was raised by a family of teachers and farmers. She devoured any book she could find in her schools, and her love for stories drove her to the field of drama. She traveled East Africa doing community theatre before concentrating on writing and directing. Nitumwesiga's art explores themes of power, gender, race, sexuality, politics, death, loss, history, reality, hope, psychology, and memory. She lives with her family in Wakiso District, Uganda.
